Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

This is a review of the new movie Transformers Revenge of the Fallen directed by Micheal Bay and staring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, who's performances (I will argue) have improved since the first movie (being more so Miss Fox).
I would like to start this quote with what seems to be the official quote for ROTF, which is "Micheal Bay has done it again!" ... and he most certainly has ...

Think Bad Boys 2 and mix it with Peter Jackson's King Kong battle with three T-rexs, and then mix it with a thirteen year old, hand-held-shaky-camera-throwing-up style who has just discovered what boobies are (Megan Fox's chest should have its own credit) and with scenes were you finding yourself struggling to see what the robots are doing, mixed with a plot holes that are impossible to jump over ... and you have your Transformers movie: A headache. On all sides, shapes and transformations.

Unnecessary dialog (one minor robots swears for "comedy" effect) and comic reliefs undermining Bad guys (Megatron? A threat? Who's Devistator?) go towards the mix to what makes a Micheal Bay movie. He has done it again, and it's a sorry site.

The robots transforming and the parents are the best thing in this, but you can see the first movie for that stuff. The directors inability to kill (and then keep dead) his characters becomes a drag that, in the end, doesn't help the story or characters (an audience won't fear a Bad Guy who can't be BAD). Jokes that are nothing but crude distract you at critical moments in the story (which itself is a drag). I seem to remember seeing the Devistator have balls, about a 3 second shot, and then, Just in case you missed this, the film repeats this joke, zooms right in, and then literally tells you "LAUGH!". No one ever laughed at the kid at school who repeated a joke and then had to tell you that it's funny ... Bay never seemed to leave this stage were peoples rude bits made him giggle.

The director likes these very special shots also:

1. When a bad robot turns up, even if it's a summers day, everything turns BLACK. To show you he's naughty
2. The blinding sunlight ... to show you it's dramatic
3. 360 degree camera angles going very, very fast
4. Dropping Optimus Prime out of planes

Special effects (good special effects) aren't distracting. Now this being a blockbuster, that can be accepting if you see a few close ups of a Transformer transforming, but it happens so often that it just becomes annoying.

I was expecting a dark story, almost like a Dark Knight. Something to kick you awake and say "this is different now, it's not just fun. It's dangerous". What I got was a movie to scared to make a sacrifice and unable to take itself seriously. Bay, if you can't take it seriously, who will? After all, "No sacrifice, no victory"

The excuse "it's a Micheal Bay Film" is just as bad as saying "Paris Hilton shouldn't go to jail because it's Paris Hilton", it is NO excuse.

2 out of 5, just because those Parents were funny for the 15 minutes of screen time.

No matter how fierce Optimus fought, no matter how ballzie Devastator was, they were all terminated by the Revenge Of Bay.
